Update #59: January 2021

It’s 2021! A new president got inaugurated today. I don’t like to talk about politics anymore, so I won’t.

I’m going to start a new format for my blog posts. I got rid of the standard introduction that I had before for my previous monthly updates. Now that the goal “deadline” has passed for my previous goals, I feel a little freer to write about whatever I want every month.

I’ll still tracking my net worth until I hit at least $1M, but I think I’ll write more about life and other things. I’ll also try to write some more content for real estate since that would probably be more helpful.

For those still interested in my net worth goal progress, here are the trailing twelve months:

It was just a year ago when I was in Hawaii with my wife, kids, and parents. I was probably in the best shape of my life, and I ran a new marathon PR (see here). We haven’t really been able to take a nice vacation since then because of COVID. I went from under 150 lbs to 174.8 lbs in less than 12 months, a gain of about 25 lbs. Sitting and being busy with real estate has taken a toll on my physical fitness and health. I’m going to try to get back into shape. I started a 5k training plan on my Garmin app. I’m starting small and running 2-4 miles about 3x/week. I’ve seen my weight start to go down from 173 lbs to about 168 lbs now. I hope to keep this going.

I had taken a semester off from the UVA CFP program, but I’m starting back up this semester with Income Tax Planning. I just have this one course and Capstone, and I’m done with the coursework. If I want to become a Certified Financial Planner, I have to actually work in the industry for 3 years and pass a test at some point. With my real estate business taking up most of my free time, I don’t have ambitions to become a CFP right now.

My parents have officially moved down to Virginia from Rhode Island. They lived in RI for 40 years and raised my sister, brother, and me there. They are living nearby now and helping with the kids. This is life-changing for us, and we are very grateful for the support.

That’s all I feel like writing today, so I’ll end it here.
